Out And Back Hypercoaster

The original hypercoaster, Magnum XL-200 @ Cedar Point, was modeled after the action of the traditional wooden out & back. Out & back hypercoasters are usually built in a L-shape, because of space limitations, or straight, like Steel Force @ Dorney Park. Out and back hypercoasters draw their thrill from the negative-g sensations felt going over the hills. Out & back hypercoasters usually feature 2 - 4 major hills out to a turnaround, and then camelbacks on the return trip. All out & back hypercoasters have lapbar restraint & some feature seatbelts. Out & back hypercoasters are built by Arrow Dynamics, DH Morgan, Bollinger & Mabillard, and Intamin.

These are traditional out & back hypercoaster:
1.) Magnum XL-200
2.) Pepsi Max Big One
3.) Titan (less than 200 ft) at Space World
4.) Steel Force
5.) Mamba
6.) Wild Thing
7.) Steel Dragon 2000 (also a Gigacoaster)
8.) Apollo's Chariot
9.) Nitro
10.) Superman Ride of Steel (SFA)
11.) Superman Ride of Steel (SFDL)
12.) Superman Ride of Steel (SFNE)
13.) Sliver Star

Hyperlooper

Some consider Manhattan Express, at the New York, New York Hotel & Casino, as the first hyperlooper, while others consider Steel Phantom (now the non-looping Phantom's Revenge) at Kennywood. The main feature of the hyperlooper is the inversions. Hyperloopers are (or were) built by TOGO & Arrow Dynamics. All hyperloopers, except Son of Beast, feature OTSR restraints.

These are Hyperloopers:

1.) Steel Phantom (1991-2000)
2.) Manhattan Express
3.) Son of Beast (also a Hyperwoodie)

Hypertwister

The first hypertwister is Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America. Hypertwisters combine the airtime of wooden out & backs with the lateral g's of a wooden twister. Like normal hypercoaster, all hypertwisters feature lapbars. Hypertwisters are built by Bollinger & Mabillard and Giovanola.

These are hypertwister:
1.) Raging Bull
2.) Goliath
3.) Titan (SFOT)
4.) Phantom's Revenge

Hyperwoodie

Some don't consider wooden coasters as hypercoasters since the steel hypercoasters are modeled after them. The first hyperwoodie is Son of Beast at Paramount's Kings Island. Hyperwoodies are built by Roller Coaster Corporation of America and Intamin.

These are hyperwoodies:
1.) Son of Beast
2.) Colossus

Gigacoaster

The first gigacoaster is Millennium Force at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. The purpose of the gigacoaster is pure speed. There are currently only two gigacoasters, the other being Steel Dragon 2000. MF provides its thrill thru pure speed and overbanked turns, while SD2K provides it thru airtime. Gigacoasters are designed by DH Morgan and Intamin.

Sub - Hypercoaster (aka Junior Hypercoasters)

Junior hypercoasters provide the thrill of hypercoasters, without the height and speed. All junior hypercoasters are under 200 feet in height. Junior hypercoaster are cheaper than hypercoasters, and still have many hypercoaster features. They are usually out & back and feature lots of airtime. A contreversal junior hypercoaster is Titan. While only 5 feet under 200 ft, some still consider it a junior hypercoaster just because it is not exactly 200 feet tall.

These are junior hypercoasters:
1.) Titan (?) at Space World
2.) Steel Eel
3.) Bandit (Japan)
