What makes a hypercoaster influential?

A influential hypercoaster is one which introduces a new concept that is new and unique. While all hypercoasters are wonderful, only a few are influential! An influential hypercoaster is loved by most and hated by almost no one... it has something that just makes you want more!

Magnum XL-200 (1989)

Magnum XL-200... what is there to say?

Magnum XL-200 is a renassiance classic! It was the first continuous circuit coaster to top 200 feet and 70 MPH. While Magnum XL-200 is over 10 years old, it remains a favorite of most enthusiasts.

If you just take one ride on Magnum, you will know why! First you enter the train, strap in your seatbelt, and pull down the lapbar. Then the ride ops give the thumbs up... and your off. Click... Clack... Click... Clack.

Up the lift hill you go while wondering:
- How high is this thing?
- When are we going to get to the top?
- Why the heck did I get on this thing?

and my favorite...

- I'm going to kill whoever talked me into this!

While traveling up, you can see Lake Erie ahead (and sometimes Canada on a clear day), Space Spiral to the right, Gemini to the left, and Millennium Force behind you. Then all of sudden, you're dangling over the crest of the hill... and then swoosh... your traveling 72 MPH down the first hill.

Everything about Magnum is great! It has the speed, the height, and the airtime. Even though Arrow bunny hill are primative, you still get some very good airtime.

Wild Thing (1997)

Wild Thing... You make my heart sing... You make everything groovy!

Wild Thing at Valleyfair! was the first non-Arrow Dynamics hypercoaster. This green and yellow monster was DH Morgan's first hypercoaster venture, and WOW is it great. While this ride is overshadowed by its cousins (Steel Force, Mamba, Phantom's Revenge), nothing is like the original.

Wild Thing features one of the most unique beginnings of any hypercoaster. First there is the 196 foot, 60 degree descent... but then there is a 100 foot second hill!!! I repeat, a 100 foot second hill. This is where Wild Thing shines. That 100 foot second hill gives riders the longest weightless zone of any coaster on the planet. What this means is... airtime, airtime, and more airtime. This miniscule hill gives you over three seconds of negative g's!
